He "Works"
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. " Romans 8:28
I looked up the definition of purpose today. Purpose as a noun can mean the reason for which something exists or is done, made, or used. As a verb it means to design or to intend. I also looked up according, which means to agree. So those that love God have been called in agreement of his intended design. Hmmm. Interesting. Some bible scholars say that before the world was made God knew exactly who would be open to yielding to Him. He knew before man was ever made that certain people would respond to His will.
God has a will and a purpose for each and every one of His children. Think about it. When you have children, from the time they are in your womb, you think what kind of child will I have? What will they do with their lives? Parents always have dreams for their children. My mother always wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. She had in her mind the type of person I would marry. You know, as parents, you have plans for your children. Plans that don't need their input. Okay, know that we have that on the table. Imagine how much more our Lord, our Father has planned for us. His purpose for us. Everyone was designed, made, intended for His purpose. That His will be done on this earth. God made us and formed us and knew from the moment he thought us, what we could be in His kingdom.
Now let's go to the beginning of that verse. "We know that God works" Works can mean many things as well. Let's add some other words to that to replace works.
1.) God "brings about"
2.) God "uses"
3.) God "manages"
4.) God "acts"
5.) God "labors"
6.) God "toils"
I could go on and on with that list. But to keep it simple and not go off on a tangent like I sometimes tend to do. I took what I looked up and plugged those words into the verse above. What I got was, that God brings about good to those that love Him. He "requested" our presence in agreement with what His design was for us. He intended for us to be in the likeness of his Son. We are supposed to serve and honor God. He made us in His own image. In the Garden of Eden, God came down and walked and talked with Adam. He had a personal relationship with Adam before the fall. He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him now. He sent His Son to make that possible.
God has a purpose for us. He has a plan. He wants us to open our hearts up so He can use us. God "works" for us. It's time for us to start working for Him. To labor for Him. It is time for us to be in agreement of what his initial plan for us was. He wanted us to have peace and love; to live in harmony.
